Anglesey & Gwynedd, North Wales

National Grid is proposing to build a new 400 kV connection in Anglesey and North Gwynedd for Horizon Nuclear Power’s proposed nuclear power station, Wylfa Newydd on the Isle of Anglesey. The North Wales Connection Project will connect new low carbon energy in North Wales to the electricity network. The project aims to put Anglesey at the forefront of low energy carbon development and bring economic, social and environmental gains for Anglesey and North Wales.
The project comprises 30km of new overhead line on Anglesey and in Gwynedd, and a 4km tunnel under the Menai Strait and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Following an extensive design and consultation process this was considered to be the most appropriate solution for the proposed connection in order to keep environmental effects as low as possible, whilst providing the best economic value.
Working as part of National Grid’s project team, Peacock + Smith are currently assisting with obtaining consent for the project including stakeholder engagement, production of Consultation Reports and Statements of Common Ground.
