Burton Leonard, North Yorkshire

Peacock + Smith has advised Loxley Homes on a development of 31 no. dwellings on the edge of the village of Burton Leonard, between Harrogate and Ripon. The application was recommended for approval by the Case Officer, but Planning Committee refused it on landscape grounds. Peacock and Smith subsequently submitted an appeal by the hearing procedure and this was allowed by the Planning Inspectorate on 16 August 2018.

The appeal case was strengthened through the involvement of a landscape architect (Rosetta Landscape Design) and by reference to the planning benefits of the scheme, which involved housing delivery, in particular addressing a local shortage of affordable housing.
