Darley, Nidderdale

Peacock + Smith has advised Loxley Homes on the development of a scheme for 18 no. dwellings in Darley, which is a village in the Nidderdale AONB, Harrogate Borough. Planning permission was granted in May 2018.

The challenges faced with the project related to the AONB landscape constraint and development outside the defined settlement boundary of Darley. These were overcome with a sensitive approach towards design that allowed for through views to be maintained through the layout from surrounding countryside. Peacock + Smith also harnessed the public consultation process to identify local issues in respect of a lack of affordable housing and a need for new development to sustain local services such as the village school.
