Elland, West Yorkshire
Planning permission was secured by Peacock + Smith for the comprehensive redevelopment of a large site at Elland. The proposals secured permission for a new relocation factory site for NuSwift to be funded by the redevelopment of the existing site for a new supermarket and petrol filling station for Morrisons.
The key issues were the siting of a Grade 1 Listed Building opposite the site, which included heritage and design issues, along with retail planning policy including the scale of development, impact and sequential approach to site selection with a competing application requiring demonstration of the site’s beneficial links to the town centre. There was strong public support for the scheme following extensive PR strategy in which Peacock + Smith were heavily involved.
