Soley Mews, Islington

Peacock + Smith were involved in the preparation and submission of a full planning application for the demolition of dilapidated garages and construction of four small-scale commercial units at Soley Mews, Islington. We advised on this project from the outset, providing initial advice and carrying out pre-application discussions with the local planning authority.
The scheme, prepared by Metashape Architects, creates a high-quality mews-style development that seeks to enhance an area that is currently a negative and anti-social space. The scheme required a collaborative approach, which involved a team of technical consultants, most importantly, heritage considerations as the site is located within a conservation area and adjoins a Grade II Listed building. In addition to this, daylight and sunlight, trees, land contamination, transport and highways, noise and sustainability were also key technical considerations. This resulted in a high-quality scheme that will sit comfortably within a residential and historical setting.
Originally refused by Islington Council, this application represents a re-submission of a scheme of a similar nature and description. However, includes a revised design that seeks to address the Council’s reasons for refusal based on heritage, design and amenity.
The application was submitted in December 2020 and a decision is anticipated in Winter/Spring 2021.
