The Flower Bowl, Barton Grange

Peacock + Smith project managed a team of consultants to prepare and submit an application for a new leisure facility (including inter alia the following uses: tenpin bowling; cinema, restaurants, curling rink, crazy golf facility and retail shop providing facilities and goods for use in connection with the adjacent Lancaster Canal) adjacent to the Lancaster Canal and Barton Grange Centre in Brock (north of Preston).

The site was identified as being within the open countryside on the Proposals Map of the adopted Wyre Borough Council Development Plan.

Planning issues related to the principal of development (being in the open countryside); design, given the prominent location; ecology, flooding, highways and the sequential test in respect of leisure uses being proposed outwith of a defined centre and not supported by an allocation in the adopted Development Plan.

Peacock + Smith demonstrated that the proposal represented a sustainable form of development as per the requirements of National Planning Policy and an approval was issued in 2016.
