Michael Powell

Michael joined Peacock + Smith in 2021 as an Associate in our Leeds office and was promoted to Senior Associate in 2023. Michael started his planning career in local government before moving to private practice in Yorkshire with roles at local and national planning consultancies and, more recently, in land promotion. His experience in working client-side in the development industry brings a commercial insight and edge to his planning work.

He brings experience across a variety of sectors, having acted on behalf of clients on residential, commercial, retail, rural, leisure and town centre regeneration schemes across the country. He has undertaken a wide range of planning work from initial feasibility appraisals to the preparation and submission of planning applications, Certificates of Lawfulness, Section 73 applications, Local Plan representations, appeals and enforcement work.

Michael enjoys navigating landowners and developers through the technicalities of the planning system and is keen to draw on his local authority, private sector and client-side experience to work with clients and consultant teams in achieving commercially-viable schemes.

He has been a Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute since 2007.
